family and friends

MFP president
Hello My people.
Monday, August 27, 2007
marked a historical chapter in the life of our great County, Maryland and Liberia. At 1:40 PM, a memorandum of understanding
(MOU) between the great State of Maryland and Maryland County was signed by Governor Martin O’Malley and Superintendent
I. Sie-Teba Neufville.
More than 20 Marylanders and friends were present to witness this grand occasion. Once again,
we were blessed to hear our dynamic superintendent eloquently articulate all the historic years that bind our Maryland County
to the State of Maryland and why this 170-year relationship must continue on a broader and higher level.
He focused
on the needs of the County:
EDUCATION - Rebuilding
schools for all Maryland County's children and especially the rebuilding of Tubman College, teacher training and exchange
programs.
HEALTH - The need to improve
medical facilities and rebuilding others. AGRICULTURE - The rich soil of Maryland with Oil Palm, Rubber, sugar cane and many investment opportunities
such as our minerals, fisheries, tourism and cultural exchange programs. He also emphasized the importance of building good
roads throughout the County. He touched on every need of the county and encouraged investors who filled the room to become
partners for progress for Maryland County and Liberia.
In a nutshell, we were very proud of our Sup and this great
occasion.
I would like to begin by thanking the Maryland legislative caucus- Senator Ballout, Senator Scott, reps.
Biney, Chambers, Saydee and sup. Neufville for their support as we dealt with the challenges of making sure Maryland County
was included in this MOU. Once again we would like to thank Senator Ballout for facilitating the WBAL/TV crew in filming the
documentary- Africa's Maryland which we believe played a great part in sealing this sister state relationship. Our thanks
also go to Rev. Tim Tooten and Mr. John Sanders of WBAL/TV who were present at the signing ceremony.
Now it is time,
Marylanders for us to make sure that projects needing implementation should be our focus if we want to develop our County.
We must guide, protect and insure that this relationship is to the mutual benefit of the people of Maryland County and
Maryland State. We must all work together to make things happen.
I would like to thank all chapter heads, their members
and friends of MFP who have supported our efforts behind the scenes. It has been a very difficult road, but we were encouraged
by your kind words and prayers and we believe that prayers through faith changes anything. I would like to personally
thank Mrs. Allenette Yancy Porcher of MA and Mr. & Mrs. Isaac Kyne of Conn., Ms. Cynthia Gilman and Mrs. Ora Gibson Richards
who took time out of their busy schedules to be with us at the
for MFP. You've always
been there to do everything we have requested of you. E.G.- designing and printing brochures, programs and particularly the
MDA booklet, which you stayed up many nights to perfect and print. Also your great support of the MD forum by becoming its
sole sponsor for that day. Please know we are very grateful.
Again, Thanks to ALL
God's blessings
Roberta
